A Disease not properly diagnosed...
This is in light of the SBC's misguided priorities:
“We must not…reject [or] condemn anything because it is abused. This would result in utter confusion. God has commanded us in Deut. 4 not to lift up our eyes to the sun (and the moon and the stars), etc., that we may not worship them, for they are created to serve all nations. But there are many people who worship the sun and the stars. Therefore we propose to rush in and pull the sun and stars from the skies. No, we had better let it be. Again, wine and women bring many a man to misery and make a fool of him (Ecclus. 19:2; 31:30); so we kill all the women and pour out all the wine. Again, gold and silver cause much evil, so we condemn them. Indeed, if we want to drive away our worst enemy, the one who does us the most harm, we shall have to kill ourselves, for we have no greater enemy than our own heart, as the prophet, Jer. 17, says, “The heart of man is crooked,” or, as I take the meaning, “always twisting to one side.” And so on - what would we not do?” -From Martin Luther’s fourth Invocavit sermon from 1522, found in Works [American edition] 51:85.

Wow, they've really gotten to some folks. I just got done dealing with some of the SBC's stuff on another friend's blog. There are some really fine men in the SBC, too. I'm curious about their take.
Anyway, since Finney we have really made an artform out of casting evil into inanimate objects. This is evil and that is evil.
Unfortunately, it's just not the case. As you've nailed it, the heart of man is evil and utterly deceptive when it comes to self-diagnosis. Don't believe it? Look at the preachers in Matt 7 who will stand before the Lord, only to be cast into eternal darkness. They were fooled.
Anyway, I'm glad folks are starting to think more. Perhaps a revival is erupting amongst us. Now, that would be something to pray for.

A revival, my friend, should be on our top priority prayer list every morning... and throughout the day as it pops into our heads. If you want to know the Calvinistic Baptist take on this go to "Fide-O" and "Strange Baptist Fire" blogs (on my right sidebar).

As a Calvinistic Southern Bapitst, I echo the longing to see revival in our denomination. There is so little discernment that our friends at "Strange Baptist Fire" seem to be on to something. Many in my own denomination would view any fire from God as strange indeed. Yes, we need to be on our faces in prayer about this.
