Monday Madness: Poor men with money
Joyce Meyers, an advocate for the health and wealth prosperity gospel says, "Who would want to get in on something where you're miserable, poor, broke and ugly and you just have to muddle through until you get to heaven?"
Joyce... Jesus was poor, broke, and I imagine He was in misery over the sins of the world. He was certainly despised by many and not even considered very handsome... He had "no stately form or majesty that we should look upon Him, nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him. He was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom men hide their face. He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted." Of course, Jesus never muddled through anything. He just wept over sinners and laid down His life for them.
In a Time poll, 17 percent of Christians surveyed said they considered themselves part of [the health and wealth prosperity] movement, while a full 61 percent believed that God wants people to be prosperous.
The health-wealth-and-prosperity gospel ...This false gospel appeals unabashedly to the flesh, corrupting all the promises of Scripture and encouraging greed. It makes material blessing, not Jesus Christ, the object of the Christian’s desires.--JMIsn't the one that is truly rich content with his portion? And how can one really be content? If you are so focused on being rich, you will NEVER be rich. Contenment comes only by the grace of God, through Jesus. You know... Jesus. The Son of God who was poor and despised... but yet, rich in mercy. So rich in mercy that He was willing to die for wretched poor sinners such as I because He loved His Father so much. He was a spotless lamb led to slaughter so that undeserving sinners could be justified... NOT so that they could drive cadillacs and live in earthly mansions that gather dust. Trust me... temporal riches do not bring happiness and contentment.
The prosperity gospel is by far the worst manufactured gospel of our generation ...the prosperity gospel is blatantly false with the ideology that God’s provision toward your wealth and health is available if you tap into the spiritual realm correctly... Let the word of God dwell deeply in you to create an overwhelming passion for people to be set free; people who are in bondage to the roaring doctrines of false teachers and preachers. Do not let your heart grow cold toward those who refuse to walk in the truth, but fervently pray to God to awaken their soul. If we want to be truly effective in our apologetics and defense of the gospel, we need examine our hearts. Most of all we need to depend on the Holy Spirit to break down the anarchy of people’s hearts and minds.--MG

I'll quote something I read on another blog--the only people getting rich from prosperity preaching are the preachers themselves.
And yes to what you said about being rich with contentment.
