Phriday Philippians: Partakers, Participants, Partners
For it is only right for me to feel this way about you all, because I have you in my heart, since both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers of grace with me. For God is my witness, how I long for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. --Php 1:7-8
Partaker is an interesting word. In the modern dictionary it is defined as someone who has or gives or receives a part or a share and one who takes or recieves something. The original greek definition for the word partaker in Philippians 1:7 gives the best definition. It is a participant with others in anything, a joint partner. It is a word used only in the New Testament. I encourage you to go to that link I provided for the original greek. It shows where this particular word is used, how it is pronounced, and what part of speech it is.
Our modern dictionary does not give this word justice. It fails to give the full picture of what it means to be a partaker... a partaker of grace for that matter. It is seen as a joint partner and a participant with others of grace instead of just a receiver or giver of grace.
Meditate on that. Chew on it... I'll write more about this next Friday.
For now, perhaps you will consider reading a 12 point cure for complaining.
