Thursday Theology: Really Bad Theology
"Bad theology will eventually hurt people and dishonor God in proportion to its badness." - John Piper
Gee willakers, you should see some of the e-mails I get. For instance, I have a woman that keeps e-mailing me trying to convince me of her really bad theology as she also writes that she is hoping that she is not writing in vain. She sends me things like "Shall Christian women wear scarves on our heads like the Muslims?" ...Telling me not to be afraid because truth is freeing and Jesus wants to set me free.
She recommended a book by an author who's books are boasted as being recommended on TBN... This author needs to be added to Phil Johnson's really bad theology links. I'd tell you the author's name, but I tend to have a bunch of trolls that love my site for some reason... and I do not want to promote bad theology. (especially really bad theology)
What is a bit unnerving is that this lady claims to be a 5 point Calvinist just like me... except she is an egalitarian with a whole host of other very different beliefs that even most egalitarians would say "Huh?" to. I know that her time will not be spent in vain if she prayerfully spends time in God's Word of Truth pleading humbly before the Lord not to let her be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine, asking diligently for His wisdom. Now breathe, because "Yep"... that was a run-on sentence. But I wrote that run-on sentence in all sincerity, for it is truly something we should all do often. (not write run-on sentences, but pray humbly before the Lord)
If you want a site that promotes excellent and sound theology go HERE.

Technically, I don't think it is a run-on sentence. Nonetheless, you make an excellent point (in the whole post--not just the longish sentence). ;)
Stumbled upon you site and will be back to look around in days to come.
By the way, what exactly is a troll--I've not heard that term in internet usage before; I could guess what it might mean, yet I'm not sure.

I'm looking forward to your challenge and I too will strive to write run on sentences because they have a tendancy to be more difficult to read and thus result in more concentration to read them which can be a really good thing if you want to get your point across and really want people to read what you've written.
What do you think?

Amanda,
I left you a link to the wikepedia definition of a troll. You have to scroll down to find "blog troll." But essentially most of my blog trolls e-mail me. Though a few have dared to leave comments. Some of which I have been wisely advised by my husband and pastor to delete.
That was cute... calling it a longish sentence. Next time I do that, i will have to use your terminology. My 3 year old says that... adds an -ish to things.
Thanks for leaving a comment. Hope to see you back.

Well, I hear you with the trolls. I have 2 specific trolls that hound me on my site, except that I kinda make the hounding into a sport. That's possibly bad, but I kinda have a standing rule:
"If you come in swinging, expect me to come out swinging too."
I'm significantly less patient with people than you are (and that's something I'm learning to get better at) BUT I would encourage you to keep hammering out the biblical ideas that you have, and doing so in the company of like minded Christians (high view of God/high view of scripture) is a pretty good place for that to happen. Your blog is a wonderful encouragement to me to remember that "some people out there get it".
I was riding back from a USC Bible study tonight and the driver and I were talking about how so many people (EVEN at a certain seminary) can seem to have inconsistent doctrine (good in one area and bad in another) AND so many people can have good doctrine and still live like fools. We kinda came to the conclusion that our 'good doctrine' is in our minds only because God has granted an extra measure of grace to understand certain things, and we only "do" by the Spirit working in our hearts to care enough to act on what we know.
At one time I was a degenerate heretic too, so I've gotta remember that, be patient, constantly pound back to the scriptures and pray for people EQUALLY as much as I argue with them (seeing that I may give facts but GOD gives understanding). That last statement is, uh, yeah...I've gotta work on that a tad. DOH!
I guess I'm just "sharing"...lol. Well, off to bed!
