Tuesday Tips: Take a big bite of this sandwich
The Sacred Sandwich is one of the most hilarious websites I have ever read through. It is described as a "periodical for small town Christians in a big bad world" with a new motto: "While the World Zigs, We Zag." Their photo gallery is a real hoot as the Pilgrim's Digress cartoons may have you falling off your chair. Don't Miss the Barbie Dream church in the advertisement section. (ugh) The R.I.C.K. Warren plan for humility is a real kicker.
The guy who runs this site really does have a heart to especially defend Sola Scriptura and the true Gospel of Christ. In the building of this sacred sandwich, he states that he will not substitute ingredients.
His "Disclaimer" includes, Do not be misled, however, in thinking that the satirical framework of this project implies a lack of real biblical truth. The editorial content of our site is not a joke. All the articles, as well as many of the parodies, are dead serious in their purpose of proclaiming sola Scriptura to the postmodern church in a biblical and factual way. Despite the tongue-in-cheek style, The Sacred Sandwich's main objective is to herald the sufficiency of Scripture as one of the surest means in which the visible Church might humble herself to God's will and enjoy true spiritual revival. Indeed, our satire might have an edge, but it is that edge which often cuts more quickly to the marrow of the truth. We invite you, therefore, to join us in this creative experiment by taking our noble cause seriously in the midst of our whimsy. So, go enjoy. Laugh. Christians really can do that, ya know. Don't be considered a part of the frozen chosen.
Also, do not fail to sing the Reformation Polka sung to the tune, "Supercalifragilistic-expialidocious" over at oldlutheran.com that I found over at Dan Phillips' blog... and have a HAPPY REFORMATION DAY!!!

I just discovered the Sacred Sandwich today, and it is a hoot! Wouldn't be so funny though if it wasn't all so true; truth being stranger than fiction and all.
Well, I'm off to learn the polka...

joythruChrist,
I was singing that Reformation Polka with my older boys yesterday.
And you are right... the Sacred Sandwich wouldn't be funny if it wasn't so true.
Real Truth can be a whole lot stranger than fiction. As a matter of fact, it is likely foreign and very uncomfortable to those who see truth as relative and not unchangeable and knowable.

I love the Sacred Sandwich! The scary thing about the R.I.C.K. Humility plan is that you find yourself asking, "Is this real or are they just making it up?" I wouldn't be surprised to wake up tomorrow and find out that Warren had in fact implemented this.

I thought the same thing, Scott... that the R.I.C.K. thing could possibly be real...
*shudder*

Confession -- I actually DID think that R.I.C.K. thingy was for real. I thought the site was for real until I saw Barbie's dream church. I was having a blonde moment, I guess.

joythruChrist,
Considering the direction the "purpose driven church" is going, why wouldn't we think that could possibly be real.
Not a blonde moment at all. A blonde moment would be believing that John MacArthur has embraced the prosperity gospel and will star on TBN because you heard someone say that Crouch announced it. {{{shudder}}}

It's my understanding that TBN was formed during a blonde moment...

Oh, my! A Barbie wannabe! I knew her hair was big, but I never saw that pic. Please tell me this is a doctored photo... It will make me feel better.

You will have to ask Phil Johnson. If you look at the address, it is a gif from the Spurgeon archives at Pyro.
Hmmm... do you see a connection here with the Barbie Dream church?
Posted by: lisa4given | November 4, 2006 08:10 AM
I'm not sure if there's a connection to the Barbie dream church, since I'm not sure that Jan could be said to have a wicked sense of style (something's wicked about all this though...) But TBN is a dreamworld for sure! Or maybe more like a nightmare...
I did notice that one does not need Biblical instructions to build the Barbie dream church. HEY! Maybe that's the connection! TBN doesn't seem to need Biblical instructions either!
Hokey dokey.

Hokey Dokey... I'm thinkin' you and I need to go out for some coffee. You so crack me up.
