Wednesday Womanhood: Getting back to God's Plan and Purpose
I would like to spend the next few Biblical Womanhood posts introducing Feminine Appeal: Seven Virtues of a Godly Wife and Mother by Carolyn Mahaney. It is one of those books I recommended HERE.
I was originally informed that this was a book written by Carolyn McCulley who is a single woman that is reputed as a God-honoring and encouraging example of what singles should strive to be when seeking to serve the Lord in their singleness. Upon checking this out, I found that it wasn't... but having come to know Ms. McCulley through her encouraging writing, I would not have been surprised if she had written this book from a singles perspective, even though this book includes chapter titles like "The Delight of Loving My Husband" and "The Blessing of Loving My Children," which are 2 of the 7 virtues. Why? Because though I believe God's truths are experientially important, they are certainly knowable and experiential from a differet angle; such as a single being called to write Biblically on being a wife and mother. (essentially Biblical submission and servanthood topics that are expressed with delight in serving the Lord in His will according to His precious standard.)
The additional 5 virtues in this book are "The Safety of Self Control", "The Pleasure of Purity", "The Honor of Working at Home", "The Rewards of Kindness", and "The Beauty of Submission." All of these virtues are introduced with a chapter called "Transformed by Titus 2."
This is a book we are prayerfully considering and very likely studying in the Spring of 2007 with the women, both single and married, of our church.
Nanci Leigh DeMoss wrote the foreword in this book:
...Christian women--no less than nonbelieving women--are in desperate need of the truth... I believe that this sense of confusion and distress among Christian women is because, by and large, we are profoundly disoriented about who God is and who we are, and about our calling and mission in life--as women. Almost en masse we have bought into a way of thinking about life and about womanhood, marriage, and family that is culturally accepted and politically correct but fundamentally flawed. ...(this book) will help Christian women recover the nearly lost treasure of God's way of thinking and living..."
Feminine Appeal will contribute to your understanding and need to firmly grasp God's plan and purpose for your life as a woman from the perspective of true Biblical womanhood. I am looking forward to sharing a bit of this book with you in the coming posts... just enough to whet your appetite and cause you to realize that this is an essential book for either personal reading or group study.
Press on ladies... in His truth and love for His glory,
Lisa
