Just Ask... Don't Stare
I went to the grocery store yesterday with all six of my children. In one of the rows was a man wearing a shirt with an American flag. He had a high-tech prosthetic leg.
We ended up behind him in the check-out. My twins were staring intently at his leg. I have always tried to teach my children not to stare but to just ask. I prefer that people ask when I have to walk with a cane or walker due to the MS, instead of just stare. Besides, I have never met someone who was offended at the asking. The staring is more offensive in my opinion. I have also found that every time I have asked, I have been blessed by the testimony given by that person.
I tapped on his shoulder. "Sir, what happened to your leg?"
He said that it was from a helicopter accident.
Now, my dad was military for almost 25 years and I had a feeling this guy obtained this injury and the deep scars on his face from fighting for our freedom.
"Were you the pilot?"
He said no and began to tell me a little bit about what happened.
Tears were welling up in my eyes and my children were listening to his every word. I was so thankful I asked.
I then said, "Thank you, sir, for risking your life for my and my children's freedom."
"Your welcome." He said, as he walked away with tears in his eyes.
Remember to pray for our soldiers...

Lisa, once again, thank you for living what you believe! And for reminding us what we're to be about!! Your example for your children speaks volumes!!

Tessa... I use to be someone not comfortable doing something like that. Yikes.
God uses broken vessels to shine His light through, eh?
Ukrainiac, I wish I could live out what I believe perfectly... but to HIM alone be the glory when I do, ya know?
Leslie and Jen... This soldier touched the hearts of my children and myself. HUGE impact. I praise God for giving me the boldness to just ask.

I did that once. I saw an old man sitting in the middle of a mall in a wheel chair. He had no legs from the thigh down. I wanted him to know God loves him. So I went up to him and we began talking. It turns out he was also blind. He lost his legs and sight to diabetes. But he was already well aware of the love of Jesus and was such a joy to speak with. Even though he sat alone in darkness, Light filled his heart. Instead of "blessing" him, he blessed me! Thanks for sharing your experience and for thanking him! :)
