Shameless (Reposted)
Duologos wrote something excellent HERE that caused me to think about my reprinted article included in this post that I wrote in October 2006. Duologus began his post with I was at a prayer meeting one morning - a men's breakfast for evangelicals in my area, and was struck as one fellow, in the context of the conversation, began to remark, "Well, it is just like the bible says,..." - which to me, is a very good beginning to any just about any statement you could make in a mixed company of Christians. Only he followed it up with, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!" He graciously pointed out in his post that the quote was actually not from the Bible and concluded with:
The one thing that is going to make you impotent as a Christian is a pious form of navel gazing. What do you have that you didn't receive? Let's extend that thought - what will you do for Christ in the future that will not have been given you by Him to do? Oh - brother, sister, please don't stop there, there is one more step: when are you going to stop thinking that Jesus has no interest in you or the things that you do? There is a road set before you, just for you even today - a road that has long been waiting for your feet to walk on it. A road that can only be walked upon by those who are willing to say - "God has put me here!" - and can never be found by all who would try to walk it otherwise - but if you know your father has placed the road beneath your feet - brother, sister, walk. (Go read his whole article... you don't want to miss out.)
After you read his article, then read my old repost below:
Paula White is one of the hottest TBN prosperity gospel heretics out there. She promotes Donald Trump's wordly riches and will be on the Tyra Banks show to offer advice and counsel to guests as a life-coach. I am not sharing this to laugh at her. I am sharing this because there are really people out there who are buying into this. She is shamelessly getting rich off of the poor with this stuff and it breaks my heart. (this info was sent to me via e-mail and I checked it out to make sure it was true... sadly it is.)
Here's a recap of her interview with Trump and Kiyosaki:
A. Introducing her guests, she said, "If you want to change the way you live, change your thinking. I want them to bring their wisdom to you today, give people tools to really transform their lives." And then the camera panned over to two men, co-authors of the book, "Why We Want You to be Rich": Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump.RESPONSE: "Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever"--1 John 2: 15-17.
B. ...Paula White's website really plugged this series of interviews on its home page with this promo: "Paula welcomes Mr. Donald Trump, Chairman and President of Trump Organization, for an exclusive ground breaking interview. (...Donald Trump -- gives you the wisdom of the world to transform your life on TBN! ) Donald Trump will be joined by Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad with over 26 million copies in print. These two titans of business have joined forces to release a brand new best selling book "Why We Want You To Be Rich, Two Men – One Message." ...They will discuss this and much more with Paula October 20th, 22nd - 24th and 27th taped on location in New York City. Check your local listings for broadcast times and make plans to watch as Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki join Paula for this unprecedented media event, the first interview Mr. Trump has ever done on Christian TV!"RESPONSE: Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. "For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? --Mt. 16:24-26Trump’s secret to empowerment? Never quit. "A quitter is always a loser."
Trump also said "God had to have blessed you with a good brain."
C. Paula White added, "This is a really great book in that you really teach people self-empowerment, to begin to take control…The power of perseverance—what I love in this book is you give the insight of what got you up every day – you chose not to feel sorry for yourself. Your philosophy is if you’re going to think, think big."RESPONSE: Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves-- Php 2:3
D. Kiyosaki chimed in, "It really is a spirit of winning – the holy spirit, your personal spirit."RESPONSE: Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.--I John 4:1
E. "You have to believe in yourself", Paula added, "If you don’t believe in yourself, you will never change the dynamics of your life."RESPONSE: ...all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. --I Peter 5:5
F. Kiyosaki then turned to "scripture". "From the Bible, it says ‘give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for life.’"RESPONSE: Ummmm.... "Mr. Worldly-Wise", that is actually a Chinese proverb.
G. "The only limitations are the ones we put on ourselves," Paula bubbled. "If we change our way of thinking, change our way of life – the bible is all about empowerment."RESPONSE: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty. --1 Cor. 1:27
H. Trump told of athletes who make bad financial deals for a lack of knowledge and end up bankrupt, while making their managers rich. Trump lamented, "If they knew what you preach, Paula, they would never be in the condition they’re in today."RESPONSE: Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'--Mt. 7:21-23
I. Paula nodded in agreement. "The Bible says where there is not knowledge you perish, you die. Principles change you. Until you start living by principles your life will never change. I want you to be wealthy because Christ paid the price for you to get there."RESPONSE: Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? Nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down,’ saith the LORD --Jeremiah 8:12Then Paula, looking into the camera, made her pitch. "Today’s about empowerment. That is why you need to call and get ‘Why We Want You to Be Rich’ – for your gift of $25.00. It will radically change your life. When you’re in poverty, when you’re struggling, I said, ‘this is not for me. I can have the future I desire.’ There is freedom when you have finances to do what you want to do. Then you can have the life you’ve been dreaming of. I’m seeing you somewhere in the future and you’re looking a whole lot better than you do right now."
IN CONCLUSION: Thus says the LORD, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things," declares the LORD. --Jer. 9:23, 24

It's funny that you should post that today. I was reading Luke 9-12 this morning and came across this:
Luk 12:15 And he said to them, "Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."
Luk 12:16 And he told them a parable, saying, "The land of a rich man produced plentifully,
Luk 12:17 and he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?'
Luk 12:18 And he said, 'I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.
Luk 12:19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.'
Luk 12:20 But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?'
Luk 12:21 So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God."
This was another good passage that I came across, which is similar to the one you posted:
Luk 9:23 And he said to all, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
Luk 9:24 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
Luk 9:25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?
When I read the above verses,I immediately thought of the Paula White's of the world.
Like you said, what's really sad is that there are people that actually buy into this type of thing.

All I could think to respond to with that whole thing was Scripture, Lynn. My intentions for posting stuff like this is not even to point fingers or laugh at their shameful shameless worldly, man-centered mindset. THis stuff makes me weep for the Truth of Christ to be proclaimed. What they are proclaiming is not the Gospel of Christ. It is a self-glorifying 'gospel'.
Her most nauseating words... I want you to be wealthy because Christ paid the price for you to get there.
THank you for sharing God's Word in this. Especially "Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."
Sincerely,
Lisa

The comment you considered most nauseating? It's the one that jumped out at me too!
I guess that "teach a guy to fish" verse is found in the same (per)version that contains the "God helps those who help themselves" verse. Ya think?

Exactly... :-/

It breaks my heart that there are so many people who are buying into this stuff. Sad, sad, sad. May God open their eyes to the truth of the gospel and the horror of what Ms. White and others are doing.

YesScott, and I know this is an issue with you that you take to heart because you want God to be honored.
I appreciate your hearts for God's precious Truth Scott and JoythruChrist.
Just press on, 'kay? And to God alone be ALL the glory.

Thank you for this posting. Evangelist Anne Graham Lotz has a wonderful book called The Vision Of His Glory, a study of the book of Revelation. She is the daughter of Billy Graham, and preaches all over the world. She is also the founder of AnGel Ministries, and has experience with "taking up her cross daily" to follow Christ. She once preached to a group in which several of the men sat with their backs to her because they opposed her as a woman preacher. I have heard her preach, and the anointing of God just flowed from her. Another of her books is Just Give Me Jesus. I haven't read it yet. God's Word To Women is another great resource.

Kathryn,
Women should not be preachers. It is in direct defiance to God and His Word. Period. Read my archives and you will see that I have already written on this extensively... and you will also see that I will not make this into a debate with you.
His servant for HIS glory,
Lisa

This is a prime example of why the world thinks that all of us that believe in Jesus are a bunch of flakes.
It is time for the Paula White to either get out of the world or get out of the ministry.
Posted by: James Chris Sallee | January 6, 2007 05:53 PM
Hello Mr. Sallee...
God-willing she will get out of the wordly mindset, stop preaching "another Gospel" and start proclaiming THE Gospel.
Yes, this should make us righteously angry but even if there were no Paula Whites or Benny Hinns or Paul Crouch's, etc., the world would still likely label Christians as a bunch of flakes. :-/
Jesus Himself said that His kingdom is not of this world. THE Gospel is foolishness to the world and the wisdom of the world is foolishness to God.
Ms. White is wise in her own eyes. May the Lord take her heart by surprise and open wide her eyes as He did Saul... as He did me and everyone that He truly draws to Himself.
THank you for taking the time to comment,
Lisa

Good stuff...well the article, that is...
Kiyosaki chimed in, "It really is a spirit of winning – the holy spirit, your personal spirit."
That is the part that burned me up, considering everything else that was said, pure humanism...

Even So,
I guess you noticed that I also linked to your article within this post where it says "WALK."
I linked your article because it is a must-read. Very well said and I hope others read it.

Very good post. A lot of work to put all this together. You are very gifted. Keep on my sister.
Jesus our Lord didn't have a place to lay His head. And He is Head of the Church.
He said to the church in Smyrna: "I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich)".
Have a great Lord's Day.
These prosperity preachers are in for a great awakening at on the Last Day.
