Corpse-like Pallor
I am taking some time off so that I can replace that corpse-like pallor that tends to overtake ones skin when sitting in front of a computer too much... or from doing INdoor home renovations that take over your life. I am especially making it a point to spend more time outside with my children for the next 8 days before we begin school, even if it rains. Not that I have completely ignored my children. No. That is impossible. I have to feed them.
Just kidding.
I enjoy them WAY more than this computer and the seemingly endless home renovations projects that are taking way longer than anticipated. I just need to get OUT and a vacation right now is not an option.
I do genuinely pray you all have a HUGELY blessed week!!!!!!
Half of the states in red I have lived in, and the other half I have visited. If anyone has any suggestions for a family vacation in any of the states that are not in red or in Canada, leave me a note here or e-mail me. Oh, I have also lived in Okinawa. (I was an Air Force brat) And I found this map at The Heart of the Matter. See you next week.

I heartily recommend the North Shore of Minnesota (they'll talk funny up there, especially given where you're from). It's cool; it's gorgeous; it's everything a family could want. The first time we went, our kids demanded that we take them there the next summer... and the next... and so on. We've stayed near Duluth and further north. We've camped and we've "motel-ed" it. There are state parks galore, museums, other fascinating sites, and Lake Superior (swim in a nearby river; the lake's 48º). Nearly perfect!

One of my favorite beaches in Oregon is Cannon Beach. There's a wonderful Christian Conference center there right as you come into town (www.cbcc.net/), and it's only about an hour drive from Portland. Travel tips for Oregon: if you want to avoid the rain, come in July or August. The Portland Rose Festival is the whole month of June, and it always rains at some point during it. Portland is right across the river from Vancouver, WA, so you can kill two states with one visit, and enjoy the beautiful Columbia River gorge (world-famous windsurfing on a river). There's also great skiing in Oregon, when it's cold enough to snow instead of freezing rain. Farther south you'll find Crater Lake (www.nps.gov/archive/crla/home.htm), a massive water-filled volcano with an island in the middle. There are tons of outdoor activities (camping, fishing, hiking), and a lot of hippie-mystic types to witness to! Perhaps some day we'll move back there. In the meantime, come to visit PA; there are all kinds of "attractions" such as the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall (educational attractions galore!), Philadelphia Museum of Art, Gettysburg, Battleship New Jersey, Hershey, and the Crayola Factory (check my blog for these links and others). Happy travels!

I miss your posts. I'll look forward to your return but in the meantime, enjoy the family.
I am a Marylander living in California. I would like to recommend Boston, MAss about mid October when the leaves are changing. Boston has lots of great places to visit. Let us know what you decide. Blessings.
