Give Us Words to Speak
Jon and I were approached last week by someone we have come to highly regard ... "Will you consider having your marriage testimony captured on camera?" (or something like that) "It would be an interview in a studio before a video camera... no pressure."
Now, I am sure he said more than that... but that is what stuck in my brain.
Jon and I prayed.
We talked.
We asked several questions and we prayed... a lot more.
Then we agreed to do it.
We did it this afternoon. Please realize that my husband is not one that likes to be the center of attention. He is not one to speak in front of people. He is friendly, but introverted.
I am typically the verbose one. :-D
I have done public ministry speaking. I have spoken on the radio. I have been interviewed before. But never WITH my husband because it was mainly for women's ministry. It was about a month ago that I spoke a little bit of our testimony before a small group of people with my husband sitting next to me and him interjecting things here and there. It was the FIRST time we had ever talked about our testimony to a group of people together.
There did not seem to be a dry eye in the room (even a few dripped out of Jon's eyes) and it was far more powerful a testimony with my husband sitting there with me.
Everyone figured that I would again do most of the talking.
We prayed before we went in to be filmed. The words that my husband said in his prayer that kept playing back over and over as we approached the door were:
"Father, give us the words to speak that will bring glory to Your name."
Interesting that I did not do most of the talking. Jon did. And I was blown away by the words the Lord gave him the strength to speak.
I would have NEVER pictured us where we are today. What a faithful God we serve.
Our reconciliation touched many people. Those who knew us through our tumultuous marriage and painful separation have no doubt that only God could have reconciled our marriage and made it what it is today. Here’s what a few of them wrote: (The following testimonials from family and friends were also included in the Today's Christian Doctor magazine article called "My Husband My Hero: How God Resurrected a Dead and Buried Marriage" written about 5 or 6 years ago.)
“I learned something through watching Lisa go through this: Take your eyes off God, even if only for a second, and Satan has open season on your life,” wrote my brother, Jeff. “But God was faithful. I saw Christian family members, friends, church take ACTION. Christian friends did not sit by and watch from the sidelines to see how the fourth quarter was going to end; THEY GOT INTO THE GAME. Jon’s faith and God’s glory came to life again as well as Lisa’s. . . . This situation has strengthened my faith.”To God be ALL the glory.Misty, Jeff’s wife, added: “When Lisa first informed me that she wanted to divorce Jon and all that was going on, I could feel there was a total loss of love and felt there was no hope for their marriage. . . . Their renewed love is a strengthened love, one that God has blessed them with in order to withstand the stumbling blocks He foresaw for their future, and one that, in my opinion, is nothing short of a miracle.”
Randy Jackson (best man at our wedding) and his wife, Laura, wrote: “When Lisa called to tell us they were back together, that they were rebuilding their marriage, we were stunned. It was one of the clearest examples of God’s grace we had ever witnessed. We will never again question God’s willingness to repair even the most hopeless, hurting marriages... Our God is bigger than any situation—especially the ones that seem impossible.””

What a wonderful opportunity, Lisa! I am sure God will use the video to reach out to many folks who really need to hear what HE can do in their lives, just like He did in yours.
It is always amazing to see how God changes lives and how He can use folks who used to be one way or another in a mighty way that they would never have imagined. Ha! My husband never wanted kids to start with, either. ;-)
Blessings
