Poems from my Children
My 12 and 13 year old boys had an assignment to write a poem about America for their US History class. It did not have to rhyme, but they had to use 10 or more quality adjectives and at least one alliteration. (Out comes the Thesaurus). They were given a certain structure to go by so you will find some similarities. This is not in their comfort zone, but I think they did a great job!
Here is one:
Magnificent America,
Land of…Radiant, shining seashores
With waves that rise and fall.Dark and misty forests
Full of hidden life,Restless, roaring rivers
Sometimes steady, flowingHigh and lofty mountains
Feeling rather smallMagnificent America,
Land with…People strong, enduring
Others weak or discontentPeople from diverse nations
Wealthy, lowly, but all FREE!
Here is the other:
America,
Land of…Seashores smooth or rocky,
Waves come crashing down.Deserts dry and dusty,
Endless seas of sand.Forests dense and ominous,
Life crawling through the night.Mountains grand, majestic,
Soaring high above the clouds.America,
Land of…Varied, numerous people,
Culturally diverse.United for a purpose,
Promoting laws for liberty.
