5+ Star Movie
If there is such a rating, this movie (inspired by an award-winning book) should get it. After stopping by this bloggers bookstore on the way to my mother-in-laws home, I watched it with my children. It brought back memories of my childhood that were a little difficult to reflect on... my mother left our family when I was 6. But, this movie brought to my mind that every one of us has a story. Some of us keep it hidden perhaps because there is still much bitterness and unforgiveness. Some of us keep our story to ourselves for fear of rejection. Some of us tell our story with a bitter heart... some of us share our story to help others. The one thing that really struck my heart is when that little girl, Opal, wanted to have a party. Why? Because not only do people fail to share their pain, but they forget to share their joy.
A 10-year-old girl, abandoned by her mother when she was three, moves to a small town in Florida with her father, a preacher. While there, she adopts a stray dog whom she names after the local supermarket where he was found. With her goofy pooch by her side, she meets an eclectic group of townspeople and rekindles an almost lost relationship with her father.

Get it if you don't have it already (Just click on the picture above). You'll cry, laugh... and think. And God-willing you will reflect on the true meaning of joy even in the midst of pain.

Our youngest daughter (who as you know is adopted) LOVES this movie--and she's not much of a movie fan. I haven't seen it--our daughters saw it with a dear extended family member--but certainly have hoped to. Now I'll make more effort to see it!
