Competition... where reason goes a'floatin' down the river
Last night in our home we had about 8 families over for a Mexican Fiesta to celebrate the New Year. My dear friend and neighbor was in charge of games. She is SOOOO creative and we all had a blast!!! I even entered the hot pepper eating contest and YES! the peppers were HOT!!!
After I downed the peppers, I downed the half-and-half that we had provided for our company for their coffee. When it came time to drink coffee and there were requests for the creamer, I had to 'fes up.
My mouth was on fire, eyes tearing, tongue swollen. As a matter of fact, my tongue was so swollen that when I went to respond to a question... well, you had to have been there. I just could not properly pronunciate my words for a bit.
I did look around in the midst of the contest and realize that I was the only female. One of the contestants was a doctor, another a missionary, another a builder. But I thought since I had craved jalepeno peppers for breakfast when I was pregnant, I might just have a fighting chance.
In 45 seconds I ate 14 of them. Sadly, I came in second. (I was only 4 away from winning). It is that competitive spirit I have where reason goes a'floatin' down the river because, ya know, I HAVE TO WIN! Now, I am never mean about it, but I will sometimes sacrifice body parts of my own. That has become easier to do as I age. :-/
Especially when I play racquetball with my boys.
It is 2008... already.
Consider reading THIS. It is far better than my ramblings here and may the Lord enable you to press on in HIS truth and HIS love for HIS glory in 2008... and beyond.
