Internet shaming... Blogger mobs... The Modern-Day Witch Hunt
HERE is an article that caught my attention. Read it and pray.
This break I have taken from posting on my blog has been refreshing. I have spent time focusing on my goal for the year... SIMPLICITY. Now, don't laugh. Just because I have 6 kids, life can still be simple. It is a matter of perspective and learning to say no to busyness... stepping back and giving my day to the Lord. As I plan my day, write my goals out, I pray, "Lord, here are my goals. Take them and let YOUR will be done for YOUR glory. Help me to keep my heart open to serving You by serving others. Help me to set aside MY goals for YOUR plan. Help me to make my husband my primary ministry."
Now... what does the above article have to do with what I just wrote? I have spent a bit of my time reading blogs and not commenting. Praying instead of giving my opinion. Fighting the urge to get into the fight... making the battle one in which I am quietly but fervently praying for those in the midst of the Truth War. No, not sitting on the sidelines to avoid confrontation. Just fighting the war from a different perspective.
I have seen Christians shaming Christians, blogger mobs that just go where the controversy is just to voice their opinion without realizing that there are real people with real families and real battles and real hearts that can break and be hurt. Is what you just wrote on that comment something you would say to that person's face? I have done this myself. Shame on me. I have seen Christian bloggers take up the battle in a way that honors the Lord, where their words are full of truth balanced with mercy and compassion and patience. To those bloggers, I say, praise God and know that you have taught me so much.
When I read the above linked article, my heart broke. I have no idea if the people involved are professing Christians. They certainly do not give the appearance of a Christian. But then, do I when I engage in the Truth War? That article reminded me of how quickly comments can spiral down and become vicious and unnecessary. How quickly we, as Christians, can often fail to ask the vital questions before we hit "publish"... the most important question being, "Does this bring glory to God?"
Let's not get into the the modern-day witch-hunt. Yes, confront the issues. Engage in the Truth War. But remember that the Lord is the ultimate Justice-Keeper and that we are called to shine the light of Christ in the midst of the battle.

My Husband, My brother in Christ
