We were actually faced with a similar question 3 years ago. Do we go to Disney World as we planned or do we use that money to adopt the twins that unexpectedly came into our lives? You all know what we picked and there has been no regrets!!!!!!!!
Now we are talking about possibly going on a mission trip to Mexico this fall as a family. Yes... all 8 of us... and yes... it would cost about the same to do this as it would to go to Disney World.
I have a feeling you all know what we will do if it works out to go (DV)... and I can guarantee at the end of the trip, we will go home with more lasting and meaningful memories. I just can't picture our family at Disney World anyway. I hear it is a money pit. I am sure it's fun. I actually went once when I was a kid. But the memories that stand out to me far more are things like camping and fishing with my dad.
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.... Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does... Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.--James 1:17-27
