In Retrospect
I know it has been almost a week since Mother's Day, but I can't stop thinking about how special it was. I woke up to my husband and two oldest sons cutting up fruit to bring to our church. The men and young men of the church had determined that they would fix brunch for the mothers with the stipulation that the mothers were not to lift a finger to help. My family wouldn't even let me carry anything to and from the car when we got to the church, even though my husband had been called in to the hospital. Yep, he was on-call on Mother's Day, as he is often on other holidays.
But, it was fine and we are used to it. It is my husbands calling to be a doctor. He loves it and I love that he loves it. He got to the church about 20 minutes after we got there and our children really stepped up to the plate without their dad there to direct them. The food and fellowship and sermon were all excellent. It was even more special that Jon's sister and her husband and baby could be there with us. They are thinking about moving here when she finishes her Internal Medicine residency in a few months. She may work at the same hospital as her brother, my husband, as a hospitalist. An ideal job for a woman with children because the hours are so good. They may even get a house near us so that my children can smother their baby cousin with love and attention like they did all weekend!
My husband also brought home a huge handful of gorgeous roses the night before Mother's Day along with a bag full of cards the kids picked out. Those cards were still in the bag and unsigned on Mother's Day and the day after. My husband is so sweet and I love that he even thought of having the kids get the cards. It was a busy day on Mother's Day... a lovely day with my family, so I pulled those cards out of the bag and read them the next day, in the quiet of the morning, when I was all by myself. :-D
It became a guessing game for me as I figured out what card must have been from which kid. The one that I figured was from my two oldest and I was right said:
Picture a Loving
and kindhearted mom,
a woman
you know
you can trust.
A fun kind of mom
who can share
a good laugh
but will
lay down the law
when she must.
Picture a mom
who's supportive
and strong,
the kind who
will always
come through.
Picture a mom who's incredibly loved...
and you'll picture a mom just like YOU!
Yes, the kids were still in bed that morning as I read through the cards... praying for each child that God has allowed us to have... tears of joy rolling down my face. Why Lord? I cannot comprehend why you have blessed me so...
