Searching the Scriptures, Weighing the Cost
Though four of our 6 children have made a profession of faith, we have not "made" them get baptized. We have spoken of the importance of baptism, what it is, why "they", and not us, need to make the decision to get baptized with the request that they not take communion until they know that they are ready to be baptized.
Our oldest son took communion for the first time recently. Afterwards, I said "I assume this means you are ready to be baptized."
"Yes. I am."
We did not present an easy-believism gospel that is so prevalent today. Along with the Gospel of Truth, we have taught the significance of both the Lord's Supper and Communion. Josh has weighed the cost and we have witnessed the fruit of genuine saving faith in his life, time and time again. I have been praying for this day. Honestly, it took longer than I thought for him to make this decision, but I can see that he was making sure that he was not just holding on to the coattails of his dad and I, but earnestly searching the Scriptures and weighing the cost. Do I believe all this just because dad and mom and my grandparents do? Or is all of this really true?
Training Children with Grace and Truth: CD's from Gundersen's most sought after topics from seminars presented at many churches, retreats, and home education conventions that include Character training; Building the conscience; Right views of "self"; Moral training by fathers; Courtship and dating contrasted; The joyful fruit of righteous training.Your Child's Profession of Faith: Gundersen's unique treatment of a rarely-addressed subject can make the difference between parents who participate in their children's deception and presumption, or parents who truly guide him to eternal life. If a small child tells us he thinks he's saved, do we take his words at face value? How do we test his profession, especially without seeming to doubt the child and discourage him? Many have found this book the most useful guide ever written on the topic.
