The Defense of Truth Using Scripture Upon Scripture
I have found that when asked to explain certain doctrines, the best way to explain them is not my words, but to provide the proof in Scriptures to the person asking. Once they read through the defense, for example, of the Doctrine of Election according to Scripture, I have found time and time again that the response is one of humbleness... "Wow... God chose me. He drew me. I didn't choose Him." This response to God's Word of Truth according to this particular doctrine always reminds me of the following hymn:
My Lord, I did not choose You,
For that could never be;
My heart would still refuse You,
Had You not chosen me.
You took the sin that stained me,
You cleansed me, made me new;
Of old You have ordained me,
That I should live in You.Unless Your grace had called me
And taught my op’ning mind,
The world would have enthralled me,
To heav’nly glories blind.
My heart knows none above You;
For Your rich grace I thirst;
I know that if I love You,
You must have loved me first.
For the list of Scriptures that defend the Doctrine of Election go HERE and HERE. These are both Biblegateway.com links. I had to do 2 links because they will not generate more than 25 portions of Scripture at a time per link. In other words, the Doctrine of Election's proof in Scripture is not based on just a couple of Scriptures taken out of context, but on several Scriptures throughout the Old and New Testament that testify to the truth of this great and humbling doctrine.

The Biblical Doctrine of Election is that it is unconditional, irresistible, and irrevocable. All this to the glory of God--without in any way diminishing the dignity or responsibility of man.
“That he might increase and I might decrease.”--John the Baptist
So, if God elects, why evangelize?
"God has called me to preach His word and if I knew that all the elect had a yellow stripe painted down their backs, then I would give up preaching the Gospel and go and lift up shirt tails!" - Charles Haddon Spurgeon
