Comfort in the midst of this election year
...for me comes from the following Scriptures:
“Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand.” -Proverbs 19:21In other words, no matter what, God's plans cannot be thwarted. No matter how hopeless things may seem, our hope as Christians is in the eternal things set forth by our faithful and mighty God before the foundations of the earth were even laid. A God that is trustworthy because of the unchangeable character of His purpose."...remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, 'My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,'calling a bird of prey from the east, the man of my counsel from a far country. I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass; I have purposed, and I will do it." -Isa. 46:9-11
For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation. So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us." -Hebrews 6:16-18
"God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?" -Numbers 23:19
God forbid, Obama will be elected. I especially find it telling when Hannity says that Obama, with his ties to radical groups and controversial people, would not even pass his own security check to get near himself. How did this guy end up as a presidential candidate? Are Americans that blind?

Now, I want to clarify that I am a Christian before an American. My loyalty lies with the Kingdom of God with a heavenly citizenship that surpasses my earthly citizenship as an American. Don't get me wrong. I love America. My father and brother served in the military and I grew up a military brat. But America, as much as I love my country, is not a city on a hill. It is Christians throughout the world that are called to be beacons on a hill.
Abraham Lincoln famously described Americans as an "almost chosen people." But there is a huge difference between "chosen" and "almost chosen." The "chosen" are citizens of heaven; the "almost chosen" are, in the best case, "good" citizens on earth. But being good, as it plainly states in Scripture, is not a ticket into Heaven. As Christians, we must not muddy the dividing line in our loyalty to our country over our loyalty to God. God IS supreme over all of the governing institutions that He ordains. In other words, there is no one in this world that holds office apart from God allowing them to hold it. God is sovereign and if He is powerful enough to make this world, He is powerful enough to crush anyone in political power IF and only IF it is apart of His divine plan. There is a reason bad people are allowed to hold political offices. Just read the Old Testament and remember that God's ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts. Especially remember that God is perfectly just AND perfectly loving and His purposes are good. No matter what, the Lord WILL prevail. BUT that doesn't mean Christians can just sit back and do nothing. Though your ultimate loyalty is to God alone, you still have the responsibility to do what is right and fight for what is right, which is clearly spelled out in Scripture. All of us will be held to account for our actions. May we stand firm on the solid ground of Christ and His Word of Truth.
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness..." -2 Tim 3:16

Never take lightly what it cost Him.
And never assume that if it cost Him His very life, that it won't also cost you yours."
